PATNA : Tributes were paid to Maharana Pratap Singh, the legendary Rajput hero of Mewar, at a function held to mark his 411th death anniversary at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall here today.

The epitome of fiery Rajput pride and self-respect, Maharana’s bravery and determination made him a symbol of India’s indomitable spirit. The incident of Jauhar and Saka at Chittor made a deep impression on the heart of Pratap. He was full of hatred for tyrant Muslim king Akbar who indulged in the merciless killing.

Referring to caste based politics and affiliations in successive governments in Bihar, the members of the warrior race reiterated it was Maharana Pratap who would inspire youths.

The speakers also flayed the NDA government, led by Nitish Kumar, for furthering quota politics.

“The quota system is bad. It has to end somewhere as everybody is asking for it. If for whatever reasons it has to be implemented, it should be well distributed to cover all those who need them. Financial status and not cast should be the criteria. You can not deny opportunity to a student belonging to a Brahmin, Rajput or Kayasth family just because of his caste,” said Kunwar Ajit Singh.

“We (Kshatriyas) supported this government with all our might to end Lalu’s 15 year misrule and still support him on developmental issues. However, like Lalu, Nitish is also indulging in caste-based votebank politics. Lalu did it loudly. Nitish is doing it silently,” said Rana Shiladitya Singh of a Kaimur based Rajput organisation.

During the congregation of community members, under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Mahasabha (ABKM),  leaders cutting across party lines also protested against the “ill treatment” being meted out to Anand Mohan Singh, former MP of Sheohar, in Saharsa jail.

Lovely Anand is likely to be Congress’ candidate from Sheohar.

Former Minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal, former Home Minister and president of Congress in Maharashtra Kripashankar Singh, national president of ABKM Kunwar Harbans Singh and others vowed to support Anand and take his case to the Supreme Court where no CM could influence the verdict.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Digvijay Singh addressed Anand Mohan’s wife, Lovely Anand, as ‘bahu’ and said, “I will do whatever is required to help Anand Mohan in getting justice.”

BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar Rajiv Pratap Rudy urged the Rajput youth to play constructive role and contribute in the State as well as country’s development.

The Mahasabha also expressed concern over growing terrorism and appealed to the countrymen to give a befitting reply to the terrorists.

Lokendra Singh Kalvi (Rajasthan), AS Chennaswami Raju (Andhra Pradesh), Mahendra Singh Jadeja (Gujarat) and others were some of the prominent community members from other states who attended the meet.
